Testing to International Standards

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world’s leading organisation that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies including EMC and electrical safety.

IEC standards are accepted by many government and international organisations and as such ensures that products and equipment imported to, or exported from a country meet the strictest requirements in terms of safety, reliability and performance.

The benefit of using international standards is that it reduces duplication of testing for achieving compliance in multiple countries.

The Comité International Spécial des Perturbations Radioélectriques (CISPR) is part of the IEC and develops some of the international standards for controlling electromagnetic interference in electrical and electronic devices.

Most harmonised European (EN) standards used to assess products against European Directives have an international equivalent. In many cases the requirements are identical but in some cases there are differences and these need to be accounted for in product testing.

Our UKAS accredited Test Laboratories are able to assess your products for compliance with the requirements of your intended markets to ensure all the requirements are covered.

The use of international test standards with appropriate national deviations is the basis on which the CB Scheme operates and removes the need to duplicate testing where a product is to be placed on the market of more than one country. We offer electrical safety testing under the IECEE CB Scheme which is recognised internationally in over 50 countries including North America and Canada.
