Nick Wainwright, Chief Executive
Nick Wainwright has worked for us since 1990 and been our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 2013.
Nick is Chartered Engineer with a wide range of skills developed over 25 years in the regulatory compliance business. He equally comfortable in the board room, in the test laboratory or speaking at international conferences.
He is proficient in both the theoretical and practical aspects of EMC and the wider field of regulatory compliance and has a strong commercial background.
Background
Nick has a BEng (Hons) degree in electrical and electronic engineering and an MSc with distinction in Electromagnetic Compatibility. He joined the York Electronics Centre, out of which York EMC Services (YES) grew, in 1990 from GPT Telecoms as an EMC engineer, carrying out EMC testing to International and European EMC standards for commercial companies.
In 1992, he was appointed as a senior EMC Engineer, providing a supervisory role for other EMC engineers and technicians within the laboratory and was instrumental in the development of the EMC testing procedures leading to the laboratory’s initial NAMAS (UKAS) accreditation in 1995.
Nick became the Laboratory Manager when YES’s test laboratory moved from York to Castleford in 1996 and helped to establish and develop the business there for the next 10 years.
In 2004, Nick was appointed to the Board of Directors as Operations Director and led the strategic growth of YES’s testing business including the development of the Bristol laboratory which was acquired from GTL in 2007.
Nick has been Chief Executive of YES since 2013 and has led the company through one of its most active periods of growth.
As Chief Executive, Nick is responsible for leading the development and execution of the Company’s long term strategy which entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing YES’s long and short term plans.
Nick takes a very hands-on approach to his Chief Executive role and has project managed the new Castleford laboratory at Speedwell Road, building on the experience of designing and developing laboratories in Bristol and Grangemouth. He also takes an active role in delivering YES’s Training Courses (Online, and face-to-face) and can often be seen presenting at exhibitions and peer reviewed conferences both in the UK and overseas.
Nick also performs the role of Quality Director, directing the development of ISO 17025 for the laboratories, ISO 9001 for the other activities of the business, and HSW Director ensuring that the activities undertaken by YES are performed in a safe manner.
As YES was a University of York subsidiary company prior to the acquisition by Eurofins, Nick is a member of the Department of Electronics Industrial Advisory Board where he provides an all-important industry perspective.
As a Chartered Engineer Nick is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), a member of the Institute of Directors (MIOD) and a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE). He is the EMCTLA representative on the UK Mirror Group for ISO WG44 (ISO/IEC 17025 Revision).
In his spare time Nick is an active member of the UK and Ireland Section of the IEEE, being on the committee of the EMC Chapter as well as the Section Executive Committee. Nick is also Website Manager for the Section and is a Committee Member for EMC2021, the International EMC Symposium to be held in Glasgow.
